Roman Empire AE Follis of Licinius I (AD 308–324)

A genuine bronze AE follis struck during the reign of Licinius I, one of the last rulers of the Roman Empire before Constantine the Great became its sole emperor. Licinius ruled the eastern provinces during one of the empire's most turbulent periods, forming and later breaking an alliance with Constantine before ultimately being defeated in AD 324.

This coin survives as a tangible artifact from the era that transformed the Roman world. It circulated during the same generation that witnessed the legalization of Christianity, major military campaigns across the Balkans, and the consolidation of imperial power under Constantine.

This specimen was acquired directly from the finder, Marius Staszak, who personally recovered it through legal metal detecting in Europe. According to the finder, it forms part of a group of Roman and medieval coins recovered during a 2025 detecting expedition through Romania and Bulgaria. The exact recovery location for this individual coin was not documented at the time of discovery.
